Recognising the complexities involved in developing sound Long-term low-emission development strategies (LT-LEDS) that guide countries over the long term, this knowledge product aims to showcase the optimal components of developing a successful LT-LEDS, illustrated through country case studies. By providing insights into country processes and best practice, this publication seeks to support the preparation of new LT-LEDS, and the review and implementation of already submitted strategies and outline how they should inform the process of updating nationally-determined contributions (NDCs).
This publication highlights key components of a well-structured LT-LEDS, including a robust long-term vision, alignment with national policies and development goals, effective governance and stakeholder engagement, and a solid financial foundation.
