Finance plays a formidable catalytic role in the transition to a green economy and Uganda has made significant strides in ensuring green finance for the effective transition to a green economy. However, the country still faces several key challenges on securing financing for the private sector, particularly those in the green sector.
This policy landscape paper provides an overview of the state of green finance in Uganda, an overview of the relevant legal and regulatory frameworks, and highlights the challenges to accessing (by MSMEs) and delivering (by banks and finance institutions) green finance in Uganda. The landscape paper serves as a background document to the practitioner labs for policy prototyping in Uganda hosted by SEED and ACODE with the new Green Finance Strategy by the National Planning Authority as the focal point of discussion and co-creation sessions.
