Climate change impacts such as heavy rainfall, periods of heat and drought as well as extreme weather with flooding, hail and storms are increasing in intensity and frequency and can be felt by everyone. The effects of the climate crisis and the need to take precautions and adapt to it are therefore increasingly becoming the focus of public attention. Municipalities and municipal organisations, as those affected and those shaping the situation, are the linchpin of practical climate change prevention on the ground.
More and more municipalities are setting out to strategically integrate climate impact adaptation in the long term and are having municipal adaptation concepts drawn up by climate adaptation managers (KAM). Many of these organisations are funded by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV) as part of the "Measures to adapt to the consequences of climate change" funding guideline. This brochure aims to support KAM in the first 100 days of climate adaptation management. The tips and advice are based on the relevant requirements of the funding guideline, but can also be applied to other contexts. This brochure from the Centre for Climate Adaptation (ZKA) can be of help to anyone looking to get started in municipal climate adaptation management.
