GIZ's Sector Programme Climate Change (SV Klima) supports the work of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) on a broad portfolio of climate-related topics. This includes advising on international climate negotiations, providing information for decision-making processes, incorporating climate aspects into various areas of development cooperation and supporting climate policy in developing and emerging economies.
For SV Klima, adelphi takes on ad-hoc and long-term assignments to support policy advice in the areas of mitigation, adaptation (including Loss & Damage), climate financing, as well as partnerships and mainstreaming (bilateral cooperation, Just Energy Transition Partnerships (JETPs) and NDC partnerships). This includes a wide range of services are requested, such as briefing notes and studies, commenting development cooperation documents, analyses of current initiatives and processes, communication products in German and English, and training and event support.
Along with continuous support analysing topical climate policy reports and developments, selected areas of focus have been:
Carbon markets, including facilitating the High-Level Group of Friends on Carbon Markets;
Rapid assessment of NDC 3.0 of several countries in terms of their mitigation and adaptation ambitions;
Entry points for work with the private sector (e.g. for Mexico, Rwanda and Mozambique or in the JETP investment plans) as well as with other non-state actors;
Communication products and narratives for climate and development cooperation partnerships.
