Climatic hazards such as cyclones, droughts, heavy rainfalls and heat waves are already posing challenges to industrial development in India. In the light of climate change and with its consequences being mostly ignored in industrial planning, India could face an increase in loss and damage in the industrial sector.
As part of the Indo-German Development Cooperation, adelphi, Ifanos and Integration developed a policy study on climate change adaptation for sustainable industrial development in the Indian states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on behalf of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).
The study examined the general need for adaptation to climate change. Furthermore, the study determined how to increase sustainability and resilience of industrial development in Telangana and Andra Pradesh in light of a changing climate. To this end, the study analysed the risks for industry parks and individual industries.
On this basis, the study compiled best practice examples and recommended suitable measures for industrial estates and industries that minimise risks and harness opportunities.
