Climate protection is in greater demand in society than ever before. Companies and other organizations are publishing climate protection plans and are aiming to achieve climate neutrality by offsetting their greenhouse gas emissions. At the same time, accusations of greenwashing are becoming more frequent. The confusion of different statements and goals makes it difficult for private consumers to distinguish between effective climate protection measures and greenwashing by organizations. A climate protection label is intended to provide a remedy.
In the project "Phase II of the development of a climate protection label for the Alliance for Development and Climate Foundation", adelphi was designing a climate protection label that comprehensively evaluated the climate protection efforts of the Alliance's supporters with regard to their commitment to high-quality climate protection and the promotion of development effects in the Global South. Requirements were defined for the various steps along which climate protection is to be realized. In addition to a suitable label approach and an ambitious set of rules, adelphi also developed an implementation concept that discussed and answered questions around governance, the course of verification processes, political framework conditions and financing concepts. Furthermore, adelphi organized comprehensive stakeholder discussions with actors from science and climate protection, supporters of the alliance and other relevant groups and verified the applicability and appropriateness of the label in a test phase with selected companies.
