Effective disaster risk reduction (DRR) requires a close collaboration of decision makers, the scientific community, the private sector and civil society. In fact, however, knowledge on disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation is often fragmented and thus not adequately reflected in decisions on disaster risk reduction and the implementation of risk reducing measures.
Together with partners from various European countries, adelphi works on identifying the factors that hamper the uptake of knowledge developed by the various stakeholders and its integration in the decision making process. Examples from practical experiences will be used to show how this exchange of knowledge can succeed, and how it can contribute to better decisions in the field of disaster risk reduction. The thus derived ‘lessons learnt’ will be used for the development of policy recommendations.
Moreover, the project will contribute to a direct exchange of knowledge between the different actors in the field of disaster risk reduction by organizing a number of interactive workshops. In addition, adelphi will be responsible for various dissemination activities and will, for instance, report on initiatives in the field of disaster risk reduction in the EU member states.
