At the latest since the "Fridays for Future" movement, climate protection has become an area of concern for a general public and at the core of our society. As a result, companies are increasingly addressing the issue head-on. Even mineral oil companies are outdoing each other with promises of climate neutrality in the near future. Central to achieving this goal is very often the offsetting of greenhouse gas emissions. Offset providers therefore play a central role in voluntary climate protection. Through their work, they guarantee the quality of the offset projects and certificates and thus the climate integrity of the approach. However, the lack of international market rules jeopardizes the integrity of offsets and publicly the approach is quickly labeled as "indulgence trading" and "greenwashing". This threatens the future viability of offset markets and creates uncertainty for businesses and private consumers.
The project - a digital media training for the offset partners of the Alliance for Development and Climate Foundation (ger. Stiftung Allianz für Entwicklung und Klima) - aimed to address these challenges, among others. In addition to the climate protection effects, adelphi put the additional development effects, which have a decisive influence on the customers' decision to purchase offsets, in the focus of the external communication of the offset providers. In five modules, offset partners of the alliance were trained in the areas of "basics of sustainability communication", "development impacts", "appropriate use of visuals", "the future of the voluntary offset market" and "criticism of greenhouse gas offsetting".
