In September 2013, the United Nations General Assembly agreed to work towards an integrated Post-2015 Agenda, aligning the MDG (millennium development goals) and SDG (sustainable development goals) processes. The Post-2015 Agenda will set the international framework and vision of sustainable development for decades to come. Judging by the present-day international debate, however, until now the environmental dimension is not placed prominently enough within the Post-2015 Agenda. Therefore, providing a real platform for debate, adelphi initiated, designed, organized and hosted the international workshop “Embedding the environment in the Post-2015 Agenda” and promoted its outcomes.
On January 27-28 January 2014, civil society and think tank representatives from ten countries from around the globe met in Berlin, Germany to discuss regional and thematic priorities as well as strategies for strengthening the environmental dimension in the Post-2015 Agenda. The Chair’s Conclusions summarise the major results and key messages of the debate. The high-profile workshop was organised jointly with Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik (SWP) and the German NGO Forum on Environment and Development, financially support by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety. It aims to initiate a series of activities and events in 2014/15 to develop a stronger voice for environmental concerns in the Post-2015 context.
