The AWARE project raises awareness regarding the deterioration of water ecosystems in coastal areas. The new approach proposes to enhance links between research and policy-making through the use of integrated adaptive ecosystem management, engaging scientists, policymakers and the public into participatory scenario-building. Three coastal areas have been selected: the Gulf of Riga, the Southern North Sea, and the Po Delta.
AWARE’s specific objectives include the design and implementation of the participatory scenario workshops, an evaluation of the approaches and improving networking between science institutions, policy authorities and stakeholders in the case study areas as well as at the EU level. A detailed assessment of this process, plus an evaluation of the science-policy gap at the level of EU water policies, complements these activities. Within the consortium of 13 international partners, adelphi is responsible for the evaluation of the Riga case study and the survey on the science-policy gap. Furthermore, adelphi conducts extensive interviews at EU level, ensures that the communication platform remains transparent and is responsible for all public relation activities.
