Climate change, environmental degradation, poverty and social inequalities are some of the most pressing global challenges of our time. The poorest income strata in developing and emerging countries (“base of the pyramid” – BoP) often are particularly vulnerable to environmental and climatic impacts on their livelihoods. Innovative entrepreneurs around the world have started developing solutions which tackle environmental challenges and at the same time create positive impacts at the BoP.
These business models are important drivers of the shift towards a green and inclusive economy. Their diffusion, however, requires targeted support. Against this background, the 16th International Business Forum (IBF) put discussions on green and inclusive business success stories centre stage with the key challenges and solutions to their diffusion. Ten finalists of an awards scheme launched prior to the IBF presented their business models during the forum and an international jury selected three winners as Champions for Green and Inclusive Markets.
adelphi – on behalf of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) – provided support in terms of concept development and hosting of the CHANGING Markets Awards, offering tailored workshops for the finalists before and after the forum alongside a session on capacity building for green and inclusive business during the forum.
