From this July, a touring exhibition opened by Gunther Adler (BMUB State Secretary) and Dr Martin Wansleben (DIHK Chief Executive) will set off on a tour of Germany. The exhibition, put together by the German EMAS Advisory Board, aims to make EMAS better known amongst German businesses.
The twelve sides of the six double-sided stands in the exhibition provide a good overview of the European Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS). They provide a point of entry into the topic, describing the system and its requirements. The added-value of using EMAS, both from a political perspective and in terms of energy/resource efficiency and sustainability, are also presented in the exhibition. Furthermore, EMAS users’ voices are heard, describing how an organisation can use EMAS to make sure it is ready for the future.
The touring exhibition is part of celebrations for EMAS’s 20th anniversary, taking place under the motto “doing business successfully and sustainably.” It was opened on the 16 June 2015 by State Secretary Adler and Dr Wansleben, and will initially be exhibited at the Federal Environment Ministry in Berlin. It will be on tour throughout Germany until mid-2016, and will principally be on show in Chambers of Industry and Commerce.
The exhibition was put together by the German EMAS Advisory Board (UGA) and its branch office and organised in collaboration with the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB).
The community scheme for voluntary environmental management and environmental auditing (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme, EMAS) is an instrument, developed by the European Communities in 1993, for businesses which want to improve their environmental performance. Regulation (EG) 1221/2009 provides the current legal basis. This revision came into force on 11 January 2010. The setting up of an environmental management system, and the procedures associated with it, are since 2001 also compliant with ISO 14001.
