A growing number of businesses in China aim for sustainable production in the future. This is to be achieved with the help of environmental managers, who are receiving training on site from adelphi, together with project partners. A total of 30 participants attended a kick-off training session in Shanghai as part of the EMAS Global China project.
The project’s goal is to train Chinese consultants as environmental auditors and experts on the environmental management instrument EMAS (EU Eco-Management and Audit Scheme). Once having completed training, they will support Chinese businesses and the production sites of European companies in introducing EMAS Global. Following the train-the-trainer approach, they will also be taught how to pass on their newly acquired knowledge to future generations of EMAS experts. Plans are in place to train 500 Chinese experts to assist Chinese enterprises and production sites of European businesses in their efforts to secure official registration in line with EMAS.
The workshop included a group visit to the Schaeffler Gruppe plant in Taicang. The automotive supplier company is supporting the project and has aligned environmental protection measures in its Chinese production sites with EMAS requirements.
The EMAS Global project is part of the programme SWITCH Asia, through which the European Union promotes sustainable consumption and production models in small and medium-sized businesses, and sustainable consumer behaviour in Asia. Several other training sessions and conferences in China are planned up until the year 2016.
