The SEED Initiative hosted by adelphi has been invited to participate in the panel discussion ‘Entrepreneurship as a Tool for Empowerment’ during the High Level Thematic Debate at the 67th Session of the United Nation General Assembly, on 26 June 2013, in New York.
The thematic debate joined experts from all over the world to discuss promoting entrepreneurship in the contest of sustainable development and poverty eradication at the national, regional and international levels.
Helen Marquard, Executive Director of the SEED Initiative took part in the panel discussion focusing on entrepreneurship as a tool for empowerment. In her speech she related to the experiences of the SEED Initiative with assisting social and environmental entrepreneurs worldwide in scaling up their businesses. She highlighted the importance of partnership building with policy and research institutions to make the enterprises sustainable. She also stressed the fact that for social and environmental entrepreneurs it is especially challenging to access financing. In many cases, they are driven by social and environmental objectives rather than a commercial interest while seeking financial sustainability at the same time. This calls for hybrid financing solutions that often are not yet available.
