The risk of conflicts due to climate change is expected to rise, particularly in fragile and conflict-afflicted countries. Within the framework of the Initiative for Peacebuilding – Early Warning Analysis to Action (IfP-EW), adelphi together with EU representatives in Brussels will discuss strategies to avoid fueling discord and tensions.
The workshop will give participants, members of the EU Commission and the European Parliament, an overview of the results of case studies from Argentina, India, Mexico, Nepal, Uganda, and the Mediterranean Area. Experiences in managing climate-related risks in those regions and various approaches for active conflict prevention and peace building will also be discussed. Furthermore, adelphi will present its latest assessing tool, the Water, Crisis and Climate Change Assessment Framework, which was developed and tested within the IfP cluster and which can support policymakers, academics and civil society to initiate programmes securing peace and resources.
IfP-EW is a project led by a consortium of 10 NGOs, amongst them adelphi, and funded by the European Union’s Instrument for Stability. It aims to develop and harness international knowledge and expertise in the field of conflict prevention and peacebuilding.
