„Taking Green to the Next Level“ was the motto of the conference „Electronic Goes Green 2012+“ (EGG), organised by the Fraunhofer IZM and the Technical University Berlin. Together with GIZ India, adelphi presented research results on electronic waste recycling.
adelphi displayed CO2 figures of different production methods for metals, which are required for the manufacturing process of most electronic devices. The study the presentation is based on compares the extraction of raw materials through recycling with the primary production of metals. In addition, different recycling paths are compared with each other, for example, to calculate the varying CO2-emissions from manual and mechanical dismantling.
A second presentation held by GIZ drew lessons from the success of the labeling scheme of the Indian Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) to derive suggestions for a more successful setup of the Indian “Ecomark” label. During the conference adelphi also participated in a networking event organised by GIZ, EMPA, the StEP Initiative and the United Nations University. GIZ representatives from all over the world provided an overview of current national developments with respect to the generation and handling of electronic waste in their respective countries.
