Innovative policies for a "green economy" are the centre of an event with high-ranking representatives from Germany and China organised by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and adelphi.
The two-day dialogue forum will be opened today by the Parliamentary State Secretary of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, and Nuclear Safety, Katherina Reiche, who underlines the importance of this issue: “The idea of a green economy is receiving more and more attention worldwide”. The participants will subsequently debate existing potentials in both countries to achieve advancements in the construction of sustainable economic systems and to systematically use corresponding experiences for mutual learning. Together, ideas should be developed on how a German-Chinese dialogue can be designed and structured in the future. Beyond that first approaches to a German-Chinese platform on the green economy will also be discussed.
In light of global climate change and increasing resource scarcity environmental technologies and environmental innovations are shaping the future markets of the 21st century. They are not only a motor for growth and employment, but also make a significant contribution to international climate protection. Thus the “green economy” is also a focus of the summit conference on sustainable development in Rio de Janeiro in 2012 (United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development - "Rio plus 20").
