Chile’s economy is growing steadily, as are greenhouse gas emissions. To control this, the government is considering to introduce a national emissions trading scheme. adelphi organised a knowledge exchange on the issue of German and Chilean experts.
During the three day programme in June 2013, representatives from Chilean ministries for the Environment, Energy, and Finance met in Santiago de Chile to discuss both basic concepts of emissions trading and practical expertise acquired from the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) with experts from adelphi, DIW econ, and FutureCamp. The workshop coincided with a BMU delegation’s visit to Chile, which also provided for dialogue between private sector representatives on the issues of climate change mitigation and emissions trading.
As part of the project “Capacity Building – Emissions Trading Systems”, adelphi has already organised similar programmes in South Korea and Kazakhstan.
