The growing building sector is one major reason for the ever increasing demand for energy, resulting in the need for energy efficiency in residential buildings. adelphi has just started to support the National Housing Bank (NHB) in implementing a line of credit of 50 million Euros.
Forecasts on energy consumption predict a dramatic rise in India´s energy demand. One of the major reasons is the strong growth of urban apartment construction without considering energy efficiency measures. In order to change this trend, the KfW Development Bank is providing a credit line to the Indian National Housing Bank (NHB to refinance individual home buyer loans for energy efficient residential housings. The main focus lies on typical apartment developments for the Indian middle class family.
adelphi and its partners The Energy and Resource Institute (TERI) and Environmental Design Solutions (EDS) have been supporting the NHB in implementing the credit line since early August. The task includes assistance in identifying and certifying building projects, further development of energy efficiency loan products, marketing and branding of financing products, and capacity building.
