ECCA 2015: adelphi presents "Klimalotse" evaluation and vulnerability analysis on Germany

New developments in adaptation to climate change take centre stage at the European Climate Change Adaptation Conference 2015 (ECCA). Christian Kind and Walter Kahlenborn are presenting an evaluation of the "Klimalotse" as well as current findings from a vulnerability analysis on Germany.

"Integrating climate adaptation action in science, policy, practice and business" – under this motto, more than 1.000 researchers, political decision-makers and companies will be meeting in Copenhagen from the 12th to the 14th of May. This year’s European Climate Change Adaptation Conference (ECCA 2015) will focus on new research findings, current political developments and practical experiences. adelphi’s contribution will take the form of two presentations.

Presentation: "Evaluating a Decision Support Tool with Users from Municipalities"

Christian Kind will use his presentation provide insights into the evaluation of the "Klimalotse". This online guide to dealing with the impacts of climate change is aimed at municipalities and businesses and was developed by adelphi in 2010 for the German Federal Environment Agency (UBA). It supports its readers with comprehensive resources and methods with which to formulate adaptation strategies. Over the past 18 months, the actual use of the online guide was analysed in detail, including interviews with representatives from German municipalities. Both the analyses and the interviews formed the basis for the Klimalotse 2.0.

Presentation: "Sectoral and Cross-sectoral Vulnerabilities in Germany"

How vulnerable is Germany to climate change? Answers to this question are provided by a cross-sectoral, national analysis of Germany’s vulnerability to the impacts of climate change. In his presentation, Walter Kahlenborn discusses those regions, sectors and issues which will be particularly affected by climate change. This vulnerability analysis will form part of the German Adaptation Strategy (DAS). It is based on transdisciplinary collaboration and joint development of methods within the Vulnerability Network, a consortium of 16 federal agencies and institutions in Germany, alongside a research team lead by adelphi.
