What challenges for sustainable development arise from the interaction of climate change and state fragility? On 10 July, the EU Delegation to the United Nations and adelphi will organise an expert discussion on the topic in New York.
Climate change and conflict are already reversing development gains and impeding prospects for achieving the SDGs. Yet many questions require further understanding to inform efforts to address these risks:
To what extent are these risks being acknowledged in SDG interventions on the ground?
How specifically can addressing climate, peace and stability advance the Agenda 2030?
Which SDG entry points can tackle climate security and development challenges together?
To discuss these questions and identify ways forward, the EU Delegation to the UN and adelphi are convening a breakfast meeting, drawing on lessons from the field and expert inputs to discuss the purpose and value of assessing and addressing linked climate and fragility issues in order to promote peaceful, sustainable development.
