The impacts of climate change threaten development, human security and political stability in many regions of the world. Against this background, the Federal Environment Agency tasked adelphi with the analysis of the interlinkages between climate change, adaptation and crisis prevention.
The dimensions of political risks due to climate change vary in degree across countries, and depend among others on the adaptability and flexibility of state and society and on the stability of the political system. Adaptation strategies have to consider these differences, if they hope to make a valuable contribution to the prevention of crises and conflicts.
Against this background, the Federal Environment Agency tasked adelphi with the analysis of the interlinkages between climate change, adaptation and crisis prevention. Within the project, conflict sensitive adaptation strategies will be developed and explored on the basis of a number of relevant regional case studies.
The results will be discussed and presented at national expert conferences and international policy dialogues. They aim to support established political processes in the field of climate security on the European and international level, and to avoid climate-induced security risks.
