This year’s local SEED Award winners were honoured as part of a session of the Governing Council of the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP), which took place parallel to the Global Ministerial Environment Forum from 20 - 24 February 2011 in Nairobi. adelphi supports the winning initiatives with several workshops which are specially developed for Sustainability Entrepreneurs.
Through professional coaching of the small-scale enterprises, innovative approaches to sustainable development and climate protection are to be strengthened and continually improved. For this purpose, different workshops will take place in the next couple of weeks which were designed and adjusted to fit the individual needs of the participants, with the aid of the Sustainability Entrepreneurship Toolbox developed by adelphi. The main focuses are on energy, agriculture and waste recovery. The topics range from marketing strategies, the management and expansion of partnerships, indicator development, community engagement, and benefits management to funding and finance. Furthermore, adelphi will also organise bilateral meetings between the initiatives and international organisations to explore cooperation and funding possibilities.
More than 500 participants from politics and business took part in the award ceremony organised by the German Embassy in Kenya and adelphi. Speakers at this blue-ribbon event included Achim Steiner, Executive Director of UNEP, and the German Federal Minister of the Environment Dr. Norbert Roettgen.
