Wasser als globale Ressource

Translated Title: Water as a global resource. Global analyses and local solutions for sustainable water management at the GRoW Mid-term Conference 2019.

Since 2017, more than ninety institutions from academia, industry and practice have been working on innovative solutions for global water problems in the BMBF funding measure "GRoW Water as a global resource" in order to contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in particular SDG 6 "Clean Water and Sanitation".

On 20 and 21 February 2019, twelve joint research projects presented their interim results at the GRoW Mid-term Conference in Frankfurt am Main (Germany). The research projects examine, for example, the impact of global trade flows, production patterns or developments in the energy sector on local water resources. They develop new tools for using global information to forecast water resources and water demand. They design local solutions and control mechanisms that can significantly mitigate the current water crisis, especially in areas that regularly experience water scarcity.

Some 200 experts from almost 100 institutions took part in the conference. Among the guests were actors from the private and public sectors as well as from international organisations working to achieve SDG 6.
