Change triggers emotions, good and bad. These can motivate people to become active – to participate and help shape the changes, but also to protest and to defend what they know against the unknown. This report examines the role emotions play in transformations toward sustainability. Which emotions block change, which ones promote it? How can beneficial emotions be used to support sustainability transformation? It is important for transformative environmental policy to strengthen positive emotions and connect them with visions of the future. The report makes recommendations how to achieve this.
