Original title: Überblick über die Energieeffizienzpolitik in den USA
In the United States, there are no explicit targets to limit or even reduce future total energy consumption or the use of fossil fuels at the federal level. Nevertheless, many measures were taken in recent years to increase energy efficiency. Some states like California or Massachusetts are regarded as pioneers of energy efficiency policy at a global scale.
The first part of this study gives an overview of the drivers of US energy efficiency policy in recent years and provides an assessment of the new energy efficiency policy situation a few weeks after the election and before the inauguration of President Trump. Furthermore, the central players in the field of efficiency policy at the federal level are introduced in the first part. In the second part, an overview of the efficiency measures in the states is presented and illustrated by several graphics. The third part of the study examines measures on energy efficiency, building, industry, products and transport.
