To meet the Federal Government's energy and climate goals, improving energy efficiency is just as vital as increasing renewable energy capacity. In 2014, the government rolled out the National Action Plan for Energy Efficiency (NAPE), introducing a comprehensive set of measures and making energy efficiency a cornerstone of the energy transition.
One of the main components of NAPE is the Energy Efficiency Networks Initiative (IEEN). The goals of the IEEN, set out in NAPE and agreed with major German business associations, are regularly assessed through a monitoring process.
The seventh annual report on the Energy Efficiency Networks Initiative provides a detailed look at the outcomes from the latest monitoring cycle. For this evaluation, adelphi and the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research (ISI) reviewed data from 239 networks that completed their activities by 31 December 2023. These networks offered complete documentation of the energy efficiency measures they implemented as part of the initiative.
