To meet the energy and climate policy objectives of the Federal Government, enhancing energy efficiency is just as important as expanding renewable energy sources. In 2014, the government launched the National Action Plan for Energy Efficiency (NAPE), establishing a comprehensive set of measures and positioning energy efficiency as a key component in the energy transition.
A major tool within NAPE is the Energy Efficiency Networks Initiative (IEEN). The goals of the IEEN, which are outlined in NAPE and agreed upon by the Federal Government and major German business associations, are assessed through a regular monitoring process.
The sixth annual report on the Energy Efficiency Networks Initiative provides an in-depth analysis of the outcomes from the latest monitoring cycle. For this evaluation, adelphi and the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research (ISI) gathered feedback from 212 networks that completed their activities by 31 December 2022. These networks supplied detailed documentation on the energy efficiency measures they implemented as part of the initiative.
