The European Union's Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) aims to help especially small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to systematically improve their environmental performance and at the same time cut costs. Businesses participating in EMAS are regularly checked by qualified environemental verifiers.
This guideline (available only in German) aims to aid environmental verifiers to fulfil their tasks in accordance with the EMAS system. It divides the auditing and validation process into the phases of preparation, implementation and completion and describes the tasks for each phase.
