The European Union (EU) and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) have been official dialogue partners since 1977. With the Enhanced Regional EU-ASEAN Dialogue Instrument (E-READI), they want to support the regional integration of ASEAN, promote peer learning, and facilitate exchange within the ASEAN region through sectoral political dialogue. adelphi supports this programme in its goal of strengthening cooperation to tackle regional and global environmental problems and enhancing specific climate dialogue.

The main purpose of the study is to identify the priorities, the direction and the extent of ASEAN interventions related to long-term strategies (LTS) in accordance with the Paris Climate Agreement as well as to lay out the specific stepping stones to advance the LTS agenda in the ASEAN region. Doing so, the study aims to provide an answer to the question: How can ASEAN and its member states best move forward in the LTS formulation process, taking into consideration good global practices and the regional circumstances?
