Water is a precious and scarce resource in China. High economic growth and increasing urbanisation have led to ever greater challenges in ensuring water supply and quality for private households and industry in urban areas. Against this backdrop, the KfW Development Bank organised Water Scarcity and Urbanisation in China – Challenges and Possible Solutions, an international conference hosted on 20 March 2012 in Beijing. More than 100 decision makers, representatives from international financing institutions and the German development sector came together with Chinese and German water experts and researchers to participate in the conference.
The event provided a platform to discuss opportunities and potential approaches as regards sustainable urban water supply in China. adelphi provided support to the KfW in the logistical organisation of the conference and assisted at the hosting stage, including by providing an experienced and professional moderator.
