Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs) are understood as concrete measures to achieve the goals of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) that were adopted under the Paris Agreement at COP21 in December 2015. The NAMA Facility finances transformational NAMAs from across all sectors and all developing countries that will steer challenging sectors towards a sustainable low carbon pathway. At the COP 23 in Bonn, Germany, in November 2017, the Donors of the NAMA Facility announced its most recent 5th Call for Proposals.
adelphi together with Perspectives supported the GIZ India in preparing an application package of a NAMA Support Project Outline on “Waste Solutions for a Circular Economy in India”. India’s NDC commits to reducing GDP emissions intensity by 33-35% by 2030 compared to 2005 and prioritises reducing emissions from waste through “promoting waste to wealth conversion” and “abatement of pollution”. Developing more sustainable practices in the Indian MSW sector thus directly contributes to the NDC goals.
