With the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the member states of the United Nations agreed in 2015 to reconcile global economic progress with social justice and environmental protection. Since then, its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and 169 targets have formed the frame of reference for German, European and international sustainability policy, Germany's development cooperation with partner countries, and its engagement at multilateral and global level. Against this backdrop, the 2030 Strategy Process of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) aims to deploy development cooperation measures and instruments in an even more effective, efficient, coherent and integrated manner.
In particular, this involves anchoring and promoting priority goals of the German government such as climate compatibility, protection of biodiversity, poverty reduction and the reduction of inequality, and synergistically linking and coordinating the efforts with one another. With this project, adelphi and SD Strategies contributed to the strengthening and further advancement of German development cooperation and policy in the context of the 2030 Agenda. They supported and advised the Sector Project (SV) “Agenda 2030, Poverty and Inequality” of the Gesellschaft für internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in its work for the BMZ, namely in the areas of implementation of the 2030 Agenda, reduction of poverty and inequality with the overarching goal "Leave no one behind" (LNOB) as well as early identification, monitoring and processing of strategically relevant developments.
