LIFE COASE is a project co-funded by the EU Life Programme of the European Commission. It establishes the first observatory for assessment of the European Union Emissions Trading System (EU ETS), in order to offer a reference source of knowledge for policymakers and researchers and pave the way for future research and policies on emissions trading. It started in January 2023 and will run until December 2025. LIFE COASE aims to support EU and Member State policymakers in the implementation and refinement of the EU ETS, including through its integration with carbon markets internationally.
adelphi supports the European University Institute in the implementation of the LIFE COASE project as an external collaborator. We inform and actively participate in the Net Zero and Carbon Market Policy Dialogue between the EU Commission and the regulators of other major ETSs (e.g., California, China, New Zealand, Quebec, Switzerland, UK) by preparing three annual reports. The reports review the latest developments in the world of global carbon markets, and provide an update on the state of current and upcoming linkages between ETSs.
