India and Germany have joined hands to work towards the conservation of coastal and marine biodiversity and the improvement of the livelihoods of the local population concerned under the project “Conservation and Sustainable Management of Existing and Potential Coastal and Marine Protected Areas” (CSM-CMPA). Within the framework of the Indo-German Biodiversity Programme adelphi organised and conducted a study tour on Indo-German scientific cooperation in the field of biodiversity and coastal zone management.
The participants of Indian research institutions and associations were provided introduced to with an overview of state-of-the-art research initiatives in Germany in relation to the assessment and conservation of biodiversity in the marine environment and introduced to examples of successful management of coastal national parks and could benefit of their experience in international cooperation. Furthermore possible areas of scientific cooperation on topics related to the conservation and sustainable management of biodiversity in coastal and marine areas could be identified.
