Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH
As part of the Indo-German development cooperation and the Indo-German Environment Partnership (IGEP) Programme (2012-2015), urban and industrial management was defined as one priority area. On behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) provided technical cooperation on various identified priority topics to Indian partner organisations at central, state and local level.
Promoting the implementation of "Best Available Technologies" (BAT) is regarded as key a success criterion to foster a sustainable development among developing and emerging countries. In this context, adelphi was responsible for organising and facilitating a study tour of Indian delegates from industrial region Vapi, Gujarat to selected German and Austrian pulp and paper industries. In addition, meetings with officials at the German Federal Environment Agency (UBA) and BMZ were arranged to assist the knowledge and technology transfer to the Indian private sector. Special attention was given to the co-incineration of rejects from pulp and paper plants, flue gas and waste water treatment as well as continuous optimisation of technical systems through means of good housekeeping.
The study tour was carried out in close cooperation with IGEP and culminated in an advisory report to GIZ.
