Strengthening public administration and the media in Georgia

The Georgian Ministry of Environment has been supported for many years through programmes from bilateral and international donor agencies to develop its environmental policy. The aim has been to further strengthen national capacities for action in the environmental field and to establish a modern, national EU environmental legislation. In this project, existing training and consulting programmes in the environmental field were to be supplemented through a training-of-trainers approach.

In cooperation with the Technical University of Georgia (GTU) and the University of Nottingham, adelphi raised the capacities of 16 trainers with and for the Georgian Ministry and Environment and developed training modules in the areas of water, energy, biodiversity, transport, project management and communication. Target groups of the programme included experts and executives from the environmental administration, journalists and NGOs. The SPAMGO-training center was established at the GTU and remains one the most modern training centers in Georgia. At the end of the project, SPAMGO will continue as an independent institution. Since the founding of the training center, more than 500 participants have been trained in the respective areas.
