Reducing plastic waste in Canada through voluntary instruments

adelphi has developed a policy brief in contribution to the “Policy Support Facility for the Implementation of the EU Foreign Policy – PSF 2019” project entitled “Reducing plastic waste in Canada – Ensuring sustainable consumption and production partners”, implemented by a consortium managed by EPRD Ltd. with partner sequa gGmbH and funded by the European Union.

This policy brief includes learnings from the EU experiences on the contribution of voluntary initiatives towards plastic waste reduction. It also examines the 'Green Deal' approach that may inform Canadian businesses, organisations and governments to identify best approaches and design suitable policy instruments. The analysis of voluntary measures as a complementary policy tool offers Canadian stakeholders’ insights into the European comprehensive approach to managing plastic waste.
