The registration deadline set by the European chemical regulation REACH for chemicals in the lowest tonnage volume of more than one tonne ran out in May, 2018. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) put large quantities of these substances on the market. Properly implementing the legal requirements represents a particular challenge for these actors.
REACH actors are being actively supported in their implementation of the regulatory regime through a series of workshops known as “REACH in Practice”. The Federal Environment Agency (UBA) and Federal Environment Ministry (BMUB) have been offering five workshops in 2015 through 2017 in their continuation of the successful series on varied current aspects and technical questions on the implementation of REACH.
The specialist workshops in the series provide registrants from this registration phase with highly targeted, essential information, reference experiences, and current developments relating to their environmental tasks. Further workshops will deal with the challenges of risk management throughout the life of chemicals, especially in relation to chemicals of particular concern and their negative effects on the environment and human health.
The substantive development and organisation of the workshop series took place in close coordination with the UBA’s specialist department IV 2.3 by the Institute for Environmental Strategies - Ökopol in Hamburg and the Öko-Institut e.V. in Freiburg. As a partner in the project, adelphi contributed its expertise to the design processes on the subject matter and organisation of the workshop series.
