The 10th German-Russian Environmental Days took place in Kaliningrad on 5th and 6th of September 2013. adelphi assisted the organisers with the thematic preparation, moderation and documentation of the event. Since 2002, the Federal Ministry of the Environment (BMU) in cooperation with the Kaliningrad Administration is carrying out the “German-Russian Environmental Days” in Kaliningrad. Issues of common interest in the field of environment are discussed in the context of several special events.
adelphi supported the organizers in the thematic preparation, moderation and documentation of the workshop titled “Sustainability aspects of the implementation of the 2018 World Cup in Russia".
The seminar highlighted three aspects of sustainable management, which should receive special attention during the planning, preparation and implementation of major sports events.
First, the call for sustainability is not limited to the organisation of ecologically friendly games. A sporting event should rather be used also as an impetus for sustainable urban and regional development in the respective area.
Second, already the planning of infrastructural aspects should take the entire life cycle of the buildings into account, addressing the construction of new buildings, their use, renovation/reparation and even the dismantling.
Third, the involvement of relevant stakeholders in the planning process is necessary to avoid information and implementation problems at a later state.
