The Kathmandu Participatory River Monitoring Project (KAPRIMO) aimed to develop, implement and demonstrate a non-conventional river monitoring system, which will pioneer step towards the restoration process of rivers. It was expected that KAPRIMO will serve as a catalyst for basin and nation-wide river monitoring and conservation planning.
adelphi and its partners were granted under the Asia Pro-Eco II Programme of EuropeAid the project to implement river monitoring systems in Kathmandu, specifically for two selected urban river segments of the Bagmati and Bishnumati Rivers. The decline of river quality has direct detrimental impacts on the population’s health, economy and culture in cities and downstream. Thus, responsibilities included water sampling and analyzing its activities.
The project was designed so it can be replicated on a regional, national or international level, establishing it as a model for Nepal and South Asia.
