The initiative to establish an International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) was a milestone on the road to developing a form of energy supply that is fits future needs. On behalf of governments from all over the world, this multilateral organisation will be a powerful vehicle for ensuring that stakeholders rapidly make the long-term switch to renewable energy.
In October 2009, two adelphi employees were sent to Abu Dhabi in order to support this important initiative. They will remain there until December 2010, playing an active role in IRENA activities. Their main tasks are to provide support in carrying out the 2010 Work Programme, including creating stakeholder analyses for identifying those with an interest in the field of renewable energy, and helping to communicate with member states and external agents.
