In-house energy management training for Continental AG’s automotive sites

Professional energy management enables companies and organisations to make the continual increase of energy efficiency an integral part of their business processes. Lower energy requirements mean savings in energy costs as well as reduced CO2 emissions. Particularly for the manufacturing industry, implementing energy management systems is a key factor for the future as far as competition is concerned. Certified energy management systems in accordance with ISO 50001 could be set as a precondition (further to industry classification) to exemption from the German Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG) and concessions for eco-tax.

As part of the project, adelphi provided a two-day in-house training session at Continental Automotive sites on the subjects of operative energy management and energy efficiency in interdisciplinary technology. With a view to establishing an energy management system in accordance with ISO 50001, the focus was not only on the relevant training material, but also on initiating a continual exchange of energy management experiences among the facility managers for Continental's automotive sites in Germany. Thanks to intelligent, inter-site implementation of continual energy management, Continental is making a successful and significant contribution to climate change mitigation and securing itself a considerable competitive advantage in the long-term.

To provide the energy management training sessions, adelphi drew on many years of experience as an energy efficiency consultant to the automotive industry, utilising its own internal Energy Management Systems in Practice guidelines. These guidelines had been developed by adelphi for the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) and the German Federal Environment Agency (UBA). This best practice guide is available in English, Chinese and German, and has already been accessed more than one million times.
