Following the adoption of decisions on Article 6 of the Paris Agreement at COP26 in 2021, governments across the world have started to implement national frameworks to support their participation in Article 6. At the same time, project developers are now looking to develop activities under the Article 6 framework. However, it is often challenging to understand the status of Article 6 preparations in countries and to compare readiness levels between them.
adelphi produced a report giving an overview of the latest status of Article 6 preparation in 20 countries. Factsheets for each country focused on three key areas: governance and administrative arrangements; legal frameworks; and infrastructure. An understanding of these countries’ status on Article 6 – and the timelines for readiness – can help developers when prioritizing project opportunities and allow them to better plan for demand under Article 6.
