Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH
On behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) runs the Sustainable Consumption Sector Project (SV NK). This project aims to bolster Germany's contribution to promoting sustainable production and consumption patterns in the global textile industry. It provides strategic and practical advice to the BMZ, GIZ, and other German development cooperation organisations. Additionally, SV NK manages the offices for the following initiatives:
Green Button (Grüner Knopf, GK): A government certification for textile products, ensuring they are sold by responsible companies and produced sustainably, verified by recognised social and environmental standards.
Partnership for Sustainable Textiles (Bündnis für nachhaltige Textilien, BnT): A multi-stakeholder initiative that brings together politics, business, and civil society to improve social, economic, and environmental conditions across the textile and clothing supply chain.
Siegelklarheit: A portal that helps consumers make sustainable purchasing decisions through a transparent and independent label evaluation system.
SV NK supports the BMZ in developing systemic solutions to the social, ecological, and economic challenges in the textile supply chain. The project focuses on enhancing the climate strategy, aiming for better integration and international alignment of tools like BnT, GK, and Siegelklarheit, while increasing their effectiveness and efficiency.
adelphi assists SV NK in implementing climate protection measures within textile supply chains, focusing on climate mitigation. This includes data collection and CO2 accounting, efficiency assessments, reduction measures at the Scope 3 level of production sites, implementing Science-Based Targets, transitioning to sustainable energy, and offering general consultancy.
