The aim of the German presidency of the European Council in the first half of 2007 was to achieve substantial progress in a number of key environmental policy areas. A major concern was to underscore the close link between increased environmental policy efforts and an improvement in competitiveness for European business. In preparation for the relevant consultations and resolutions during the German presidency, an international workshop was held in Brussels in December 2006 titled "The environmental dimension of the Lisbon Strategy". It covered the following topics: Climate protection, sustainable energy, environment, innovation, employment/eco-innovation, better regulation and the environmental dimension.
adelphi and its partner, the Environmental Policy Research Department of the Free University, prepared and hosted the workshop. Specially drafted input papers on the four thematic blocks served as the basis for discussions.
