Consumers around the world exert considerable pressure on climate, biodiversity and other environmental areas. Diets, energy and mobility, tourism and leisure, information and communication technology (ICT), and clothing play a critical role here. It is clear that a change in our lifestyles and consumption patterns is imperative.
In order to drive this “change in consumption”, consumers and decision-makers from politics and business need sound information. Targeted, information-based communication is key, which is why the Consumer Information Program was established at the OnePlanetNetwork of the United Nations Environment Organization (UN Environment). The program hosts four working groups on:
Providing Product Sustainability Information
Ecolabels
Product Lifetime Extension
Biodiversity and Consumption
The activities are managed by the Coordination Desk of the Consumer Information Programme of the One Planet network. During the project runtime adelphi became part of the Coordination Desk and was responsible to implement several activities.
adelphi organised and hosted together with the One Planet network two sessions at the Biodiversity COP 15 in Montreal/Canada in December 2022 to build awareness among business representatives and policy makers on the relation between biodiversity and consumption. The overall goal was to support the negotiators of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework to aim for ambitious consumption-related targets and to showcase the activities of the One Planet network.
Besides the flagship event adelphi provided administrative and strategic support to the Consumer Information Program to keep it functional for future activities in 2023.
