Among climate change’s key impacts will changes to the availability of water. This will include changes in precipitation as well as a decrease in water availability due to warming and evaporation. However, water is central for development, as drinking water, for irrigation, for industry and for hydropower. Consequently, water is one of the five main topics of the international African Climate Change & Security process. The aim of the process was to identify key climate change challenges for Africa. Based on the results, appropriate adaptation measures were developed and deliberated on an international basis.
The Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) cooperated with international partners in this process particular on water issues. adelphi supported the BMZ and its partners by developing an analytical framework and providing analytical support. The results were combined into a single report serving as point for further international dialogue and action.
