Designing and Hosting the German Pavilion at the 2016 Carbon Expo

Emission trading schemes (ETS) have gained in global acceptance in recent years. Currently, there are 17 systems across four continents. Those economies that have introduced an instrument today account for 40 per cent of worldwide GDP (ICAP Status Report, 2015). Meanwhile, in over 40 countries and 20 subnational jurisdictions, a CO2 price signal has been put in place in the form of an ETS or a tax (World Bank, 2014). In the global carbon market, various instruments exist under the umbrella of ETS, running parallel to one another or at times entangled with one another. If the interplay of these instruments is to succeed, there will need to be a change of political direction and clear economic decisions.

Against this backdrop, the Carbon Expo – the world’s largest carbon market and climate action fair – provides a major forum for the major actors in project development and purchase of certificates, as well as for project operators and investors. In addition to market players, political decision makers and experts take part in the Carbon Expo alongside international organisations and high-level representatives of market participants. The 2016 Carbon Expo will take place from 25 to 29 May in Cologne.

On behalf of Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety, adelphi has been responsible for every stage of designing and hosting the German Pavilion. Alongside planning and designing the exhibition stand, this comprised all technical and logistic services during the conference. Furthermore, adelphi provided services for exhibitors, including the organisation of side events and dialogue events as part of the German Pavilion. Finally, adelphi also provided effective public relations’ work for the German Pavilion.
