Digital Product Passports (DPPs) are set to become a cornerstone of the EU’s circular economy, offering transparent information on product sustainability, repairability, and lifecycle impacts. However, current DPP developments often overlook the end-user perspective, resulting in low awareness and limited practical value for consumers. This project aims to close that gap by developing and testing a consumer-centred blueprint for DPPs particularly for German citizens. This happens in an effort to close value chain gaps and therefore advance the transition to a circular economy. This project, commissioned by Consumers International and led by adelphi aims to create change through driving sustainable consumption patterns. These changes are made possible through tools which are accessible, trustworthy, and genuinely useful for making informed, sustainable choices.
adelphi leads the project with expertise in policy, research, and digital innovation, coordinating comprehensive desk research, expert interviews, and real-world user testing of DPP prototypes. By leveraging the award-winning Circular Experience Library and engaging 1,000 consumers in the testing of five key use cases, adelphi generates actionable insights and recommendations for industry and policymakers. The result is a robust, user-friendly DPP model that empowers consumers, supports sustainable behaviours, and bridges the gap between policy ambition and everyday practice in the circular economy.
